NOT A CATASTROPHE

Following a blog about birds with one concerning cat has a certain connectivity about it. I’m glad of that as it makes me look less manic. I have made loads of glass cats. In fact, they were in my standard range when I sticked such items. A simple interpretation of a simple cat. Essentially two glass blobs. A small one and a larger one. The small one on top of the large one being the head of course. Whiskers would always be a problem as they had to be fine but not so fine as the glass broke just by looking at it.

I am not a cat lover so not sure what colour eyes cats have but my glass ones always had blue eyes. Why? Well, the simple reason is that I had (and still do) a lot of blue glass to get rid of. Most of my glass animals that I made had blue eyes.

I hate laying down cats and by that, I mean I hate making glass cats in a laying position. My favourite animals to make are always standing as putting on the legs is easy. I use clear glass so when any animal I make is laying down then one can see the legs right through the body from the reverse side which looks just weird.

I suppose the cat that got me into trouble was called Garfield. I think he/she is a cat. Anyway, I was commissioned to make one and was reported to the company that had the copyright and promptly told to stop making them. I was only going to make one and then decided to adapt the design and added a few more legs which my Garfield looked more like a centipede!

The leaning cat of Pisa sounds weird, but I have made glass cats that were leaning if not at Pisa. The customer wanted several prizes for physicist of the month at a local laboratory. These awards were presented as part of a catalyst group of scientists and with their imagination and my skill (joke) we came up with a cat leaning to one side. Listing as in a ship listing, leaning to one side. Damn clever these scientists. Be a danger if they ever invented anything useful (joke).

I have just made a short video to promote the Society of Caithness Artists annual exhibition. The video was four minutes long. Too long my wife said. I did the video again at two minutes. Too long said my wife. I did the video again at about forty seconds. Just right said my director, sorry wife. This blog is too long perhaps but it’s not a catastrophe!
