The type of glass Ian uses is mainly borosilicate tubing and rod although he has experience of using soda-lime and silica. All glasswork is annealed in a oven (at 565 degrees centigrade for borosilicate) once completed and for more complex pieces this process is carried at certain critical times during the making of the work.
Ian prefers to work in clear glass although he does incorporate coloured glass and paints into certain work.
The photos show Ian in action using some of his tools on various types of burners. He says that his best and favourite tools are of course his hands!
