MASKS GALORE!
They say it’s a cover up, but masks look like they are here to stay, for at least a while. I started making glass masks which of course aren’t really masks, a while ago. The idea was prompted by working with an artist who has the idea of pumping biological liquids around the face and seemed like a good idea to use glass tubing. I suppose plastic tubing would work but be less fun for me. I only burnt my nose once!!!!
The tricky thing was to contour the glass to reflect the face and head but not mine. The finished work will be modelled by, surprise, surprise models and of course I have no idea what their head shape is but guessing its neater than mine. Some people say I have a big head!!!!
I like the idea of using clear glass where one can see through the glass and through the gaps that are created when the glass is bent close to another piece of glass but not actually toughing.
The practical aspect does involve some thinking about how the glass will be fixed to a head. Is it by hooks around the ears or as in a helmet with struts going over the hair? An interesting thought is that the models would be laying down and the glass just placed on top of the face and then when the picture is taken it can be manipulated on the computer. No strings attached eh.
All in all, it’s just another mask in the world that perhaps needs holding together using masking tape!!!!

I never realized your uncle was a scientific glassblower
Thanks for comment Steve and yep my Uncle was Ted Skey who married my Dad’s sister Monica. They lived in Cheam, Surrey but his workshop was in Thornton Heath, Surrey near Croydon. He was in Society of Glass Technology but never BSSG. I never heard of them til I went to Jencons!
